The Infineon AS5030 is a system-on-chip magnetic rotary encoder designed for precise contactless angular measurement over a full 360° turn. It integrates Hall elements, an analog front end, and digital signal processing into a single device, requiring only a simple two-pole magnet for operation.
The AS5030 offers an absolute angle measurement with an 8-bit resolution, translating to 256 distinct positions per revolution. This digital data is accessible via serial bit stream or PWM signal. Additionally, it provides a 6-bit code representing the magnetic field strength. Data transmission can be configured for 1-wire (PWM), 2-wire (CLK, DIO), or 3-wire (CLK, DIO, CS) interfaces.
A key feature is the software-programmable zero position (OTP), which simplifies assembly by eliminating the need for precise mechanical alignment of the magnet. The device also includes a Power Down Mode and fast startup/measurement cycles, enabling very low average power consumption, making it suitable for battery-operated applications.
This encoder is ideal for applications requiring accurate angular position feedback without physical contact. Its system-on-chip design and integrated features reduce external component count and calibration needs.
