The SMCJ5.0CA-TR is a Zener-based bidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode from STMicroelectronics. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage transients induced by lightning, inductive load switching, and electrostatic discharge. The device features a reverse stand-off voltage of 5V and a clamping voltage of 13.4V at a peak pulse current of 746A (8/20µs waveform). With a peak pulse power rating of 1500W, it provides robust protection for general purpose applications.
The TVS diode is housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface mount package, suitable for automated assembly. It operates over a wide temperature range of -55°C to 150°C. The bidirectional configuration allows protection for both positive and negative transients with a single device. Note that this component is not intended for power line protection.
Typical applications include transient protection in consumer electronics, industrial controls, and communication equipment. The SMCJ5.0CA-TR is RoHS3 compliant and has an MSL rating of 1 (unlimited).
