Z16C3220VSC

The Zilog Z16C3220VSC is a multiprotocol datacommunications device with on-chip dual-channel DMA. This controller integrates high-speed serial communication channels with high-performance DMA, facilitating higher data throughput compared to discrete chip combinations.

Key features include two full-capacity 20 MHz DMA channels, each with 32-bit addressing and 16-bit data transfers. It supports various DMA modes, including single buffer, pipelined, array-chained, and linked-array chained. The device offers a full-duplex channel operating from 0 to 20 Mbit/sec, with two baud rate generators and a digital phase-locked loop for clock recovery. It also includes 32-byte FIFOs for both receiver and transmitter.

The Z16C3220VSC supports multiprotocol operation under program control, with independent mode selection for the receiver and transmitter. Supported protocols include Async, HDLC/SDLC, Byte Oriented Synchronous, External Character Sync, and Transparent Bisync. The flexible bus interface is user programmable for 8 or 16 bits wide and directly supports 680X0 or 8X86 family bus interfaces.

Packaged in a 68-pin PLCC, this controller operates within a voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V and has an operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. It consumes approximately 7mA of current.
