The XRT7300IV-F from MaxLinear is an integrated Line Interface Unit (LIU) designed for E3, DS3, or SONET STS-1 network applications. This single-chip solution incorporates both a line transmitter and receiver, supporting data rates of 34.368 Mbps (E3), 44.736 Mbps (DS3), and 51.84 Mbps (STS-1).

 

In the transmit direction, the device encodes data into B3ZS or HDB3 formats and converts it into appropriate pulse shapes for transmission over coaxial cable. The receiver performs equalization, clock recovery, and decoding from B3ZS or HDB3 formats, converting the data to TTL/CMOS levels. It also includes LOS/LOL detection and line code violation checks.

 

The XRT7300IV-F features a 4-wire microprocessor serial interface for accessing on-chip command registers. It meets E3/DS3/STS-1 jitter tolerance requirements, offers full loop-back capability, and includes transmit and receive power-down modes. The device requires a single +5V power supply and operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

 

This LIU is housed in a 44-pin TQFP package, suitable for surface mounting. It is ideal for applications such as CSU/DSU equipment, PCM test equipment, fiber optic terminals, and multiplexers.
