The WIZnet W5500 is a Hardwired TCP/IP embedded Ethernet controller designed to simplify internet connectivity for embedded systems. This single-chip solution integrates a TCP/IP stack, 10/100 Ethernet MAC, and PHY, supporting protocols such as TCP, UDP, IPv4, ICMP, ARP, IGMP, and PPPoE.
Key features include 8 independent hardware sockets for simultaneous operation, an 80 MHz SPI interface for high-speed communication with external MCUs, and an internal 32 Kbyte memory buffer for Ethernet packet processing. The W5500 operates with a supply voltage range of 2.97V to 3.63V and an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
It supports auto-negotiation for full and half duplex at 10 and 100-based speeds. Power-saving features like Wake on LAN (WOL) over UDP and a power-down mode are included. The controller is housed in a 48-pin LQFP package with 5V I/O signal tolerance and provides LED outputs for link status, speed, and activity.
