The WIZnet W3100A-LF is an innovative embedded networking solution, functioning as a device server and TCP/IP chip. It is engineered for line-speed data transmission through hardwired logic, significantly saving MCU processing power by offloading TCP/IP tasks. This chip simplifies control and requires no operating system, making it a cost-effective choice for embedded systems.
Key features include support for TCP, UDP, IP, ARP, ICMP, and MAC protocols, with impressive processing speeds depending on the host MCU. It integrates a 10/100Base-T Ethernet gateway with auto-detection and supports four independent channels simultaneously with dynamic buffer allocation. The device operates on a 3.3V internal voltage with 5V tolerant I/Os and is housed in a compact 64-pin LQFP package.
Applications include acting as an Internet Controller for low-end MCUs in data collectors or as an Internet Accelerator to reduce jitter and enhance video and voice quality. The chip provides an MCU bus and I2C serial interface for MCU communication and an MII interface for the physical layer. It comes with 16KB of embedded data buffer and a simple Socket API interface. Source codes for DHCP, TELNET, FTP, HTTP, DNS, and SNMP are provided, written entirely in ANSI C and free to use.
