The VS1003B-L from VLSI Solution Oy is a versatile slave audio codec circuit designed to decode MP3, WMA, WAV, and General MIDI/SP-MIDI files. It replaces the discontinued VS1002 and offers wideband speech quality recording capabilities. This IC operates with a single 12-13 MHz clock and features an internal PLL clock multiplier for low-power operation.
Key electrical features include a high-quality on-chip stereo DAC with no phase error between channels and a stereo earphone driver capable of driving a 30-ohm load. It also provides separate operating voltages for analog, digital, and I/O, along with 5.5 KiB of on-chip RAM for user code and data. The VS1003B-L supports serial control and data interfaces and can function as a slave co-processor. It also includes SPI flash boot capabilities for special applications and a UART for debugging.
This audio codec IC is available in an LQFP-48 package measuring 7x7x1.4mm. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including boom-boxes, internet radios, portable karaoke machines, and VoIP speaker phones. The VS1003B-L is designed for ease of integration as a co-processor in various electronic systems.
The VS1003B-L decodes MP3 (MPEG 1 & 2 audio layer III), WMA (4.0/4.1/7/8/9 all profiles), WAV (PCM + IMA ADPCM), and General MIDI / SP-MIDI files.
The VS1003B-L has 5.5 KiB of on-chip RAM for user code and data.
