The Vishay VCNL4200 is a high-sensitivity, long-distance proximity and ambient light sensor integrated into a small surface-mount package. It features an I2C interface for easy communication with microcontrollers, operating within a voltage range of 2.5V to 3.6V.

 

This sensor incorporates photodiodes, amplifiers, and analog-to-digital converting circuits. The 16-bit high-resolution ambient light sensor (ALS) provides excellent sensing capabilities, suitable for various lens designs. The proximity sensor (PS) offers a detection distance of up to 1.5 meters and includes an intelligent background light cancellation scheme to eliminate interference.

 

The VCNL4200 utilizes Filtron™ technology for spectral sensitivity close to human eye response and provides excellent temperature compensation. It supports programmable interrupt features for both ALS and PS functions, aiding in power saving and efficient resource utilization on the host microcontroller. The sensor is designed for applications requiring presence detection and ambient light measurement.

 

Packaged in a 10-SMD module, the VCNL4200 is designed for surface mounting. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C. The integrated 940 nm IRED ensures immunity to red glow interference.
