The Vishay VCNL4040M3OE is a fully integrated proximity and ambient light sensor designed for various applications. It combines a proximity sensor (PS), ambient light sensor (ALS), and a high-power infrared emitter (IRED) into a single, small 8-SMD package.
This sensor utilizes a CMOS process and offers a 16-bit high-resolution ALS for excellent sensing capabilities in diverse lighting conditions. The I2C (SMBus compatible) interface allows for easy communication and programming of high and low interrupt thresholds for both ALS and PS functions, minimizing microcontroller resource usage.
The proximity sensor incorporates an intelligent cancellation scheme to effectively eliminate crosstalk and a smart persistence scheme for accelerated response time without misjudgments. It supports a sensing distance from 1 mm to 200 mm and operates within a voltage range of 2.5V to 3.6V. The device is temperature compensated and operates reliably between -40°C and 85°C.
