The Vishay Dale VCNL4020-GS08 is a fully integrated proximity and ambient light sensor designed for various applications in mobile, consumer, computing, and industrial devices. It includes an infrared emitter, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and signal conditioning IC within a single surface-mount package.
This sensor offers 16-bit resolution for both proximity and ambient light detection. The proximity function supports detection up to 200 mm and features programmable LED drive current from 10 mA to 200 mA. The ambient light function provides a dynamic range from 0.25 lx to 16 klx, with rejection for 100 Hz and 120 Hz flicker noise.
Communication is handled via a standard I2C interface, with an I2C bus H-level range of 1.7 V to 5 V. The device operates within a supply voltage range of 2.5 V to 3.6 V. Its compact dimensions (4.90 x 2.40 x 0.83 mm) make it suitable for space-constrained designs. The sensor also features an interrupt function for efficient operation.
Applications include touch screen locking and power saving in mobile devices, display and keypad contrast control, and dimming control for displays in consumer and industrial equipment. The VCNL4020-GS08 is supplied in a surface-mount package suitable for automated assembly processes.
