The Allegro Microsystems UDN2993B is a cost-effective monolithic dual H-bridge motor driver IC. It is designed for driving bipolar stepper and DC (brush) servo motors with output currents up to ±600 mA and load supply voltages up to 30 V.
This IC integrates separate inputs, level shifting for upper power outputs, control logic, integral inductive transient protection, and source/sink drivers in an H-bridge configuration. It features crossover current protection and internal clamp diodes. The devices are packaged in plastic DIPs, suitable for through-hole mounting.
Each H-bridge is independently controlled with ENABLE inputs that permit pulse-width modulation (PWM) for improved motor performance and system efficiency. Separate PHASE inputs determine current direction. The UDN2993B incorporates intrinsic 'dead time' to prevent cross-conduction currents during direction changes.
