The UCD7231RTJR from Texas Instruments is a high-current gate driver designed for digitally-controlled, point-of-load, synchronous buck switching power supplies. It is fully compatible with TI Fusion Digital Power Supply Controllers, such as the UCD91xx and UCD92xx families.
This device operates with an input voltage range of 4.7V to 15V and can achieve switching frequencies up to 2MHz. Key electrical features include current limit protection with independently adjustable thresholds and a fast high-side over-current sense circuit with a fault flag output. It also incorporates a differential high-gain current sense amplifier and a voltage proportional to load current monitor output.
The UCD7231RTJR is housed in a 20-QFN (4x4) package and features surface mount technology. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to 125°C (TJ). The device supports selectable operation modes, including PWM plus Synchronous Rectifier Enable (SRE) with automatic dead-time control, and direct high-gate and low-gate inputs for direct FET control.
Applications for this gate driver include digitally-controlled synchronous-buck power stages for single- and multi-phase applications, as well as digitally-controlled power modules.
