The UCC28180D from Texas Instruments is a flexible and easy-to-use, 8-pin active Power-Factor Correction (PFC) controller. It operates in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) and supports a wide programmable switching frequency range from 18 kHz to 250 kHz, suitable for MOSFET and IGBT-based PFC converters.
Key features include trimmed current loop circuits for low iTHD, a reduced current sense threshold to minimize power dissipation, and average current-mode control. It offers soft over current and cycle-by-cycle peak current limit protection, along with output overvoltage protection with hysteresis recovery. An audible noise minimization circuitry and open loop detection are also integrated.
This controller is designed for single-phase applications and features burst mode for no-load regulation. It comes in an 8-SOIC package with surface mount mounting type. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 125°C, and it requires a supply voltage of 21V. The device also includes VCC UVLO and low ICC start-up characteristics.
