The UC3844B from ST is a high-performance fixed-frequency current mode controller. It is designed for off-line and DC-DC converter applications, offering a cost-effective solution with minimal external components. This integrated circuit includes an oscillator with precise frequency control, a temperature-compensated reference, a high-gain error amplifier, and a current sensing comparator.
The device features a high current totem pole output, ideally suited for driving a power MOSFET. Protective features include input and reference undervoltage lockouts with hysteresis, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and a latch for single pulse metering. The output deadtime can be programmed from 50% to 70%.
The UC3844B is available in an 8-pin dual-in-line and surface mount (SOIC-8) plastic package, as well as a 14-pin plastic surface mount (SOIC-14) package. The SOIC-14 package offers separate power and ground pins for the totem pole output stage. This controller operates with an oscillator frequency guaranteed at 250 kHz and supports current mode operation up to 500 kHz output switching frequency.
