TSB42AB4

The Texas Instruments TSB42AB4 is an active IEEE 1394 link layer controller designed for consumer electronics applications. It interfaces directly with industry-standard physical layer devices operating at 400-, 200-, and 100-Mbps, compliant with IEEE 1394-1995 and IEEE 1394a-2000 standards.

This controller supports MPEG2 time stamp-based release as described in IEC 61883-4. It features a high-speed data interface (HSDI) with two independent bidirectional ports, capable of byte-wide or serial modes. The TSB42AB4 connects seamlessly to common MPEG2 decoder chipsets and includes a 16-bit microprocessor interface supporting Motorola 68000/68020-style bus. A large 8K-byte FIFO can be configured for various Tx or Rx FIFO combinations and supports DVB MPEG2 transport streams, DirecTV transport streams, DV program streams, and asynchronous streams.

It operates from a single 3.3-V supply and includes support for external processor DMA. Programmable data-/space-available indications provide flow control, and it supports bus manager functions with automatic 1394 self-ID verification. The device is interrupt-driven to minimize host polling. The TSB42AB4 is available in a 128-pin TQFP package measuring 16 mm x 16 mm.

Embedded support for DTCP content protection is included, featuring two M6 baseline ciphers, a hardware random number generator, SHA-1 secure hash algorithm, and an authentication key cipher. Optional auto-configuration for MPEG2/DV transmit and receive functions, along with PID filtering and packet insertion for MPEG2 transport streams, are also supported.
