This transceiver features enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection on its RS-232 I/O pins, rated for ±15 kV using the Human-Body Model, ±8 kV using the IEC 61000-4-2 Contact Discharge method, and ±15 kV using the IEC 61000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge method. It consumes a low 300µA of operating supply current and can enter a low-power standby mode drawing only 1µA when receivers are active.

 

The device is designed for applications requiring RS-232 communication, such as battery-powered systems, PDAs, cellular phones, notebooks, and hand-held equipment. It is available in a 20-pin TSSOP package suitable for surface mounting.
