The Texas Instruments TRS211IDWR is a multichannel RS-232 line driver/receiver designed for 5V operation. It provides the electrical interface between an asynchronous communication controller and a serial port connector.

 

This transceiver features four line drivers and five line receivers, meeting or exceeding TIA/EIA-232-F and ITU v.28 standards. It operates at data signaling rates up to 120 kbit/s and includes ±15 kV ESD protection on bus-pin connections. The device supports a 4.5V to 5.5V supply voltage and has a receiver hysteresis of 500 mV.

 

Designed for applications such as battery-powered systems, PDAs, notebooks, and laptops, the TRS211IDWR offers low supply current in shutdown mode (1 µA typical). It requires four external capacitors of 0.1 µF for operation. The device is available in a 28-SOIC package and is suitable for surface mount applications.

 

It also features shutdown (SHDN) and enable (EN) controls. In shutdown mode, supply current is reduced, and transmitter outputs are disabled. The EN pin allows receiver outputs to enter a high-impedance state for wired-OR connections.
