The TRF7961RHBR from Texas Instruments is a highly integrated analog front-end and data-framing system for 13.56-MHz RFID reader applications. It supports multiple protocols including ISO/IEC 14443 A and B, FeliCa™, and ISO/IEC 15693, making it suitable for a wide range of proximity and vicinity identification systems.
Key features include completely integrated protocol handling, separate internal power supplies for noise isolation, dual receiver inputs with AM and PM demodulation, and reader-to-reader anticollision capabilities. The device operates over a wide voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V and features ultra-low-power modes. It offers programmable output power up to 200 mW and an adjustable ASK modulation range from 8% to 30%.
Designed for ease of use with high flexibility, the TRF7961RHBR automatically configures default modes for supported ISO protocols. It provides 12 user-programmable registers, selectable receiver gain, and a built-in receiver band-pass filter with user-selectable corner frequencies. The interface options include a parallel 8-bit or a 4-pin serial peripheral interface (SPI) with an MCU using a 12-byte FIFO.
This RFID reader IC is housed in an ultra-small 32-pin QFN package measuring 5 mm × 5 mm, suitable for surface mount applications. It is designed for applications such as secure access control, product authentication, medical systems, and public transport or event ticketing.
