The Texas Instruments TPS60204DGSR is a step-up, regulated charge pump designed for battery-powered applications. It generates a stable 3.3V output voltage with a maximum output current of 100mA, suitable for systems powered by two alkaline, NiCd, or NiMH battery cells.
This device operates from an input voltage range of 1.8V to 3.6V, with functionality down to 1.6V. It features a low output voltage ripple of less than 5mV(PP) due to its push-pull topology. The TPS60204DGSR also includes integrated low-battery and power-good detectors, and its switching frequency can be synchronized to an external clock signal.
Designed for ease of use and low cost, this charge pump eliminates the need for inductors, reducing component count and EMI. It offers high efficiency up to 90% and a low quiescent supply current of 35µA, extending battery life. The compact solution is housed in an ultra-small 10-pin MSOP package, requiring only four external capacitors.
Applications include replacing DC/DC converters with inductors in portable devices such as MP3 players, battery-powered microprocessor systems, PDAs, organizers, cordless phones, handheld instrumentation, and medical instruments.
