The TPIC6B595N from Texas Instruments is a monolithic, high-voltage, medium-current power 8-bit shift register. It is designed for systems requiring significant load power, such as driving relays, solenoids, and other medium to high-voltage loads. The device integrates an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register feeding an 8-bit D-type storage register.
Key electrical characteristics include an operating voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V and an operating temperature range from -40°C to 125°C. Each of the eight power DMOS transistor outputs can handle 150mA of continuous current and feature an output clamp voltage of 50V for inductive transient protection. The device also boasts low rDS(on) of 5 Ohms typical and an avalanche energy rating of 30mJ.
This shift register is available in a 20-PDIP through-hole package, with dimensions of 20-DIP (0.300", 7.62mm). Its open-drain output topology and cascadable design make it suitable for various power driver applications. The device also offers low-power consumption.
Data transfers occur on the rising edge of the shift-register clock (SRCK) and the register clock (RCK). The storage register transfers data to the output buffer when the shift-register clear (SRCLR) is high. Write and read data are valid only when RCK is active.
