The Texas Instruments TPA6138A2PWR is a pop-free stereo headphone amplifier designed for single-supply electronics where size and cost are critical. Utilizing TI's patented DirectPath™ technology, this amplifier can deliver 40mW into a 32Ω load with a 3.3V supply, while maintaining low THD+N of less than 0.01% at 10mW.
This device features differential inputs and single-ended outputs, with adjustable gain controlled by external resistors, supporting a gain range of ±1 V/V to ±10 V/V. It can also be configured as a second-order low-pass filter, making it suitable for interfacing with PWM audio sources. The TPA6138A2 is designed to eliminate the need for output DC-blocking capacitors, reducing component count and board area.
Key features include high SNR (>90 dB), low DC offset (<1 mV), and ground-referenced outputs. It also incorporates short-circuit protection and a click-and-pop reduction circuitry for smooth audio transitions. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C, and it comes in a space-saving TSSOP package.
