The Texas Instruments TPA122 is a versatile stereo audio power amplifier capable of delivering 150 mW of continuous RMS power per channel into 8-Ω loads. It is fully specified for both 3.3-V and 5-V operation, with the ability to operate down to 2.5 V.
Designed for ease of use, the TPA122 features externally configurable gain via two resistors per input channel, eliminating the need for external compensation for gain settings from 1 to 10. It incorporates internal midrail generation and pop reduction circuitry for cleaner audio.
Performance is characterized by low total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N). When driving an 8-Ω load from 5 V, THD+N is 0.1% at 1 kHz and less than 2% across the audio band. For 32-Ω loads, THD+N is less than 0.06% at 1 kHz, and for 10-kΩ loads, it is 0.01% at 1 kHz and less than 0.02% across the audio band.
The TPA122 includes thermal and short-circuit protection for reliability. It is available in compact surface-mount packages: an 8-pin SOIC and an 8-pin PowerPAD™ MSOP. The device is pin-compatible with the LM4880 and LM4881 in the SOIC package.
