The TMF8801-1B from ams OSRAM is a direct time-of-flight (dToF) optical distance sensor module designed for accurate depth measurement. It utilizes a sub-nanosecond light pulse and a stop-watch method to measure the round-trip time of the pulse, providing single-zone detection of objects regardless of their color, reflectivity, or texture.
This module offers a high dynamic range and can perform sensing measurements from 2 cm up to 250 cm. It features highly sensitive SPAD detection with fast time-to-digital converters for precise distance measurements within ±5% accuracy. The TMF8801-1B is capable of operating in both dark environments and in the presence of sunlight, thanks to on-chip sunlight rejection filters.
A built-in histogram aids in detecting cover glass and compensating for dirt and smudges, ensuring artifact-free measurements. The sensor communicates via a 1.8V I²C fast-mode interface. It is housed in an OLGA12 package with dimensions of 3.6 mm x 2.2 mm x 1.0 mm.
Key specifications include a 940 nm wavelength, a 24° field of view, and an operating ambient temperature range of -30°C to 70°C. The supply voltage ranges from 2.7V to 3.3V, typically 3.0V.
