The Infineon TLD5099EP is a flexibly usable DC/DC boost controller IC with built-in diagnosis and protection features, specifically designed to drive LEDs. It supports fixed current and fixed voltage configurations in multiple topologies, including Boost, Buck, Buck-Boost, SEPIC, and Flyback, by simply adjusting external components.
This controller IC features a wide input voltage range from 4.5 V to 45 V and an adjustable switching frequency from 100 kHz to 500 kHz. It includes a pulse width modulator for dimming functions with reduced color shifting and a spread spectrum modulator to improve EMI performance. The TLD5099EP drives a low-side n-channel power MOSFET from an internal 5 V linear regulator.
Protection and diagnostic functions are integrated, such as open circuit and short-to-ground detection, output overvoltage protection, and overtemperature shutdown. The enable function reduces shutdown current consumption to less than 15 µA at 105°C. This IC is suited for use in harsh automotive environments.
