The Infineon Technologies TLD5098EL is a flexibly usable DC/DC boost controller IC with built-in diagnosis and protection features, specifically designed to drive LEDs. It supports fixed current and fixed voltage configurations in multiple topologies, including Boost, Buck, Buck-Boost, SEPIC, and Flyback, by simply adjusting external components.
This controller drives a low-side n-channel power MOSFET from an internal 5V linear regulator. The switching frequency is adjustable from 100 kHz to 500 kHz and can be synchronized to an external clock source. The TLD5098EL offers flexible dimming through analog and PWM methods, and an enable function reduces shutdown current consumption to less than 10 µA.
Designed for harsh automotive environments, the TLD5098EL features a current mode control scheme for stable regulation and an integrated soft-start feature to limit current peaks and voltage overshoot during startup. Protection and diagnostic functions include open circuit detection, output overvoltage protection, short to GND protection, and overtemperature shutdown.
The device is available in a PG-SSOP-14 package, suitable for surface mount applications. Its wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 45V makes it suitable for automotive exterior and interior lighting, general illumination, and general-purpose current/voltage-controlled DC/DC driver applications.
