The Texas Instruments TL16C554FN is a Quad UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) designed for efficient serial communication. It integrates four improved TL16C550 ACEs with steering logic. In FIFO mode, each ACE transmitter and receiver is buffered with 16-byte FIFOs, significantly reducing the number of interrupts to the CPU.

This device operates with a clock rate up to 16 MHz, supporting data rates up to 1 Mbps. It features programmable baud rate generators, allowing division of any input reference clock. The TL16C554FN can add or delete standard asynchronous communication bits like start, stop, and parity. It offers independently controlled transmit, receive, line status, and data set interrupts, along with modem control functions.

The TL16C554FN supports fully programmable serial interface characteristics, including 5-, 6-, 7-, or 8-bit characters, even/odd/no parity, and 1-, 1.5-, or 2-stop bits. It also includes features for false start bit detection, line break generation and detection, and internal diagnostic capabilities like loopback controls for fault isolation.

Packaged in a 68-PLCC surface mount configuration, the TL16C554FN is suitable for various embedded systems requiring multiple serial ports. Its operating voltage range is 4.75V to 5.25V, and it operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
