The Texas Instruments TL16C554AFNG4 is a Quad Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) integrated circuit designed for serial communication. It consists of four improved TL16C550C ACEs with steering logic. In FIFO mode, each ACE transmitter and receiver is buffered with 16-byte FIFOs, significantly reducing the number of interrupts to the CPU.

This UART supports a maximum clock rate of 16 MHz, enabling operation up to 1 Mbps. It offers programmable baud-rate generators and allows for flexible serial interface characteristics, including 5-, 6-, 7-, or 8-bit characters, even/odd/no parity, and 1-, 1.5-, or 2-stop bits. The device operates from 3V to 5.25V and includes features like false start bit detection, modem control functions, and auto flow control (Auto-RTS and Auto-CTS).
