TL16C550DIRHB

The Texas Instruments TL16C550DIRHB is an asynchronous communications element (ACE) with autoflow control, designed for versatile serial communication applications. It supports operation at 5V, 3.3V, and 2.5V, offering flexibility for various system designs.

This UART features programmable baud rate generation, allowing division of any input reference clock by 1 to (2^16 –1) and generating an internal 16× clock. It supports data rates up to 1.5 Mbaud at 5V, 1.25 Mbaud at 3.3V, and 1 Mbaud at 2.5V. The device includes standard asynchronous communication bits (start, stop, parity) and offers features like false-start bit detection and complete status reporting.

Key functionalities include programmable auto-RTS and auto-CTS for flow control, independent receiver clock input, and independently controlled transmit, receive, line status, and data set interrupts. It also provides modem control functions (CTS, RTS, DSR, DTR, RI, DCD) and internal diagnostic capabilities such as loopback controls for communications link fault isolation. The TL16C550DIRHB is available in a 32-VQFN (5x5 mm) package and supports surface mount.

This component is backward compatible with TL16C450 software after reset, with all registers identical to the TL16C450 register set. It can also be placed in an alternate FIFO mode, buffering received and transmitted characters to relieve CPU overhead. The receiver and transmitter FIFOs store up to 16 bytes.
