The TJA1055T/3/1 from NXP is an enhanced fault-tolerant CAN transceiver, primarily intended for low-speed applications up to 125 kBd in passenger cars. It provides differential receive and transmit capability and can switch to single-wire modes in error conditions. Key improvements over previous versions include enhanced ESD performance and lower current consumption in sleep mode.
This transceiver offers a baud rate of up to 125 kBd and supports up to 32 nodes on the bus. It features very low Electromagnetic Emission (EME) due to its built-in slope control and good matching of CANL and CANH bus outputs, along with very high Electromagnetic Immunity (EMI). The device includes fully integrated receiver filters and a Transmit Data (TxD) dominant time-out function.
Protection features include bus pins that are short-circuit safe to battery and ground, thermal protection, and protection against transients in an automotive environment. It also supports low-voltage microcontroller interfacing and offers low current sleep and standby modes with wake-up capabilities via the bus lines. The TJA1055T/3/1 boasts high ESD robustness with ±8 kV HBM and ±6 kV IEC 61000-4-2 protection for off-board pins.
