The TJA1054AT/VM,518 is a fault-tolerant CAN transceiver manufactured by NXP Semiconductors. It serves as the interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical bus wires, primarily intended for low-speed applications up to 125 kBd in passenger cars. This device offers differential transmit and receive capabilities, with the ability to switch to single-wire modes during error conditions.

Key features include a maximum baud rate of 125 kBd, support for up to 32 nodes on the bus, and unshielded bus wires. The transceiver operates within a supply voltage range of 4.75V to 5.25V and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 150°C. The TJA1054A series is an ESD-improved version, offering very low electromagnetic emission due to matched CANL and CANH output signals and a built-in slope control function. It also provides good electromagnetic immunity, full wake-up capability during bus failures, and extended bus failure management, including short-circuit protection. The device supports single-wire transmission modes with ground offset voltages up to 1.5V and automatically resets to differential mode when bus failures are removed.

Protections include bus pins that are short-circuit safe to battery and ground, thermal protection, and protection against transients in an automotive environment. An unpowered node does not disturb the bus lines. The TJA1054AT/VM,518 also supports low-power modes, including a low-current sleep and standby mode with wake-up via the bus lines.
