The TJA1051T/3/1J from NXP Semiconductors is a third-generation high-speed CAN transceiver. It provides an interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus, suitable for high-speed CAN applications in the automotive industry. This transceiver implements the CAN physical layer as defined in ISO 11898-2:2016 and SAE J2284-1 to SAE J2284-5, enabling reliable communication in the CAN FD fast phase at data rates up to 5 Mbit/s.
Key features include improved ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) performance. It offers ideal passive behavior to the CAN bus when the supply voltage is off. The TJA1051T/3 variant can be interfaced directly to microcontrollers with supply voltages from 3V to 5V. It is suitable for 12V and 24V systems, offering low ElectroMagnetic Emission (EME) and high ElectroMagnetic Immunity (EMI).
The device is AEC-Q100 qualified and is available in an 8-SOIC package (0.154", 3.90mm Width). It features a transmit data (TXD) dominant time-out function, undervoltage detection on VCC and VIO pins, and is thermally protected. The transceiver disengages from the bus when not powered up, providing zero load.
This transceiver is an excellent choice for all types of HS-CAN networks in nodes that do not require a standby mode with wake-up capability via the bus. It is also described as a dark green product, being halogen-free and RoHS compliant.
