The TJA1048TK,118 from NXP Semiconductors is a dual high-speed CAN transceiver that interfaces between a CAN protocol controller and a two-wire CAN bus. It is designed for high-speed CAN applications, particularly in the automotive industry, and offers improved Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) and ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) performance.
This third-generation transceiver implements the physical layer as defined in ISO 11898-2:2016 and SAE J2284-1 to SAE J2284-5, enabling reliable communication in the CAN FD fast phase at data rates up to 5 Mbit/s. It features a very low-current Standby mode with bus wake-up capability on both channels and can be interfaced directly to microcontrollers with supply voltages from 3 V to 5 V via its VIO input.
The TJA1048TK,118 is suitable for 12 V and 24 V systems and is AEC-Q100 qualified. It is available in a 14-HVSON (3x4.5 mm) package, which is leadless and offers improved Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) capability. The transceiver exhibits ideal passive behavior to the CAN bus when the supply voltage is off.
Key features include low ElectroMagnetic Emission (EME) and high ElectroMagnetic Immunity (EMI), a transmit Data (TXD) dominant time-out function, and undervoltage detection on VCC and VIO pins. Its robust design makes it an excellent choice for HS-CAN networks requiring a low-power mode with wake-up capability via the CAN bus, such as in Body Control and Gateway units.
