The TEA1721BT/N1,118 from NXP Semiconductors is a Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) controller IC optimized for flyback converter topologies in low-power applications up to 5W. It operates directly from a rectified universal mains input and includes a 700V high-voltage power switch.
This device simplifies design by utilizing primary-side sensing for output voltage control, eliminating the need for secondary feedback circuitry and optocouplers. It offers high efficiency across the load range and ultra-low power consumption in no-load conditions, achieving below 20 mW with a burst mode frequency of 905 Hz. The controller operates as a regulated voltage source up to maximum output current and then as a current source.
Key features include a jitter function for reduced EMI, USB battery charging and Energy Star 2.0 compliance, and minimized audible noise in all operation modes. Protective functions include OverVoltage Protection (OVP), UnderVoltage LockOut (UVLO), OverTemperature Protection (OTP), and demagnetization protection.
The TEA1721BT/N1,118 is available in a 7-SOIC package and is suitable for surface mount applications. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to 150°C (TJ).
