The TEA1068 from Philips is a bipolar integrated circuit designed for fully electronic telephone sets, handling all speech and line interface functions. It facilitates electronic switching between dialling and speech modes.
Key features include a voltage regulator with adjustable static resistance, providing supply for external circuitry. It offers symmetrical high-impedance inputs (64 kΩ) for dynamic, magnetic, or piezoelectric microphones, and an asymmetrical input (32 kΩ) for electret microphones. The circuit supports Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) signal input with a confidence tone, and mute input for pulse or DTMF dialling. A power down input is available for pulse dial or register recall.
The TEA1068 also incorporates a receiving amplifier for various earpiece types and provides a large gain setting range for both microphone and earpiece amplifiers. Line current-dependent line loss compensation is available for these amplifiers, with gain control adaptable to exchange supply and DC line voltage adjustment facility.
Available in DIP18 and SO20 packages, the TEA1068 operates within an ambient temperature range of -25°C to +75°C.

The typical line voltage for the TEA1068 is 4.45 V at a line current of 15 mA.
The TEA1068 can handle a maximum line current of 140 mA during normal operation.
With Iline = 15 mA, MUTE = HIGH, and Ip = 1.2 mA, the VCC is typically 3.05 V. With Ip = 1.7 mA, the minimum VCC is 2.5 V.
The voltage gain for the microphone amplifier ranges from a minimum of 44 dB to a maximum of 60 dB.
The voltage gain for the receiving amplifier ranges from a minimum of 17 dB to a maximum of 39 dB.
The TEA1068 operates within an ambient temperature range of -25°C to +75°C.
The symmetrical microphone inputs have a high impedance of 64 kΩ, while the asymmetrical input for electret microphones is 32 kΩ.
