The ams OSRAM TCS34083 is an ultra-high sensitivity light-to-digital converter designed for ambient light, color, spectral, and proximity sensing applications. It features five concurrent ambient light sensing channels: Red, Green, Blue, Clear, and Wideband, with RGB and Clear channels incorporating a UV/IR blocking filter for accurate measurements.
This sensor enables precise calculation of illuminance, chromaticity, and color temperature, crucial for managing display appearance. Its architecture includes a self-maximizing dynamic range and an interrupt-driven 1.8V I²C communications interface. A key feature is the direct detection of 50Hz or 60Hz ambient light flicker, executed in parallel with color sensing and offering independent gain configuration.
The TCS34083 also suppresses cross-coupling from adjacent 940nm IR sources and can buffer data for external calculation of other flicker frequencies. Its benefits include stable measurements behind inked materials, operation from dark room to sunlight, and minimization of camera flicker effects in 50/60 Hz light-source environments. The device utilizes 0.18µm process technology and operates with a supply voltage typically at 1.8V.
The supply voltage ranges from a minimum of 1.7V to a maximum of 2.0V, with a typical value of 1.8V.
The TCS34083 uses an I2C slave interface operating at 400kHz for both input and output.
The TCS34083 is manufactured using 0.18µm process technology.
The RoHS status is RoHS3 Compliant.
The Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) is 1 Unlimited.
The REACH status is REACH Unaffected.
