The Toshiba TC74AC138FN is an advanced high-speed CMOS 3-to-8 line decoder fabricated with silicon gate and double-layer metal wiring C2MOS technology. It achieves high-speed operation similar to equivalent Bipolar Schottky TTL while maintaining CMOS low power dissipation.
When the device is enabled, three binary select inputs (A, B, and C) determine which one of the outputs (0Y-7Y) will go low. Decoding is inhibited, and all outputs go high when the enable input G1 is held low or either A2G or 2BG is held high. The G1, A2G, and 2BG inputs are provided for cascade connection and use as an address decoder for memory systems.
Key electrical characteristics include a propagation delay of 5.9 ns (typical) at VCC = 5V, a low quiescent current of 8 µA (maximum) at 25°C, and a wide operating voltage range from 2V to 5.5V. The device offers high noise immunity and symmetrical output impedance, capable of driving 50 Ω transmission lines.
The TC74AC138FN is available in a 16-SOIC package. All inputs are equipped with protection circuits against static discharge or transient excess voltage.
