The Mayco SW106 Alabaster is a semi-opaque white glaze with a soft matte finish. It is designed for ceramic applications and is part of the Stoneware Matte Glazes line.
This glaze performs differently depending on the firing temperature. At Cone 6 oxidation, it appears as a semi-opaque white that breaks over texture, offering a satin finish. At Cone 10 reduction, the color darkens to a variegated light gray/purple. The semi-opaque nature allows the characteristics of the clay body to show through.
Application thickness is key to achieving the desired matte effect. The SW106 Alabaster glaze can be applied in 1, 2, 3, or 4 coats for Cone 10 reduction, and 3 coats for Cone 6 oxidation. It also combos well with other Mayco products, such as 2 coats of Stroke & Coat on top, or used over SW-401 Light Flux or SW-402 Dark Flux.
