The STTA812D is a TurboSwitch ultrafast high voltage diode from STMicroelectronics, designed for demanding switching applications. It features a repetitive peak reverse voltage of 1200V and an average forward current of 8A. The device offers a typical reverse recovery time of 50ns, with a maximum of 100ns, ensuring fast and efficient switching. Forward voltage drop is specified at a maximum of 2.0V at 25°C and typically 1.35V at 125°C, contributing to low conduction losses.
The diode exhibits soft recovery characteristics (softness factor 1.2 typical), which reduces electromagnetic interference and noise in high-frequency circuits. It is capable of handling high surge currents (70A non-repetitive) and repetitive peak currents up to 110A. The TO-220AC package is insulated, providing electrical isolation up to 2500V RMS, allowing for direct mounting on heatsinks without additional insulation.
Typical applications include motor control circuitries as freewheeling diodes, snubber, clamping, or demagnetizing diodes in switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), and high-voltage rectification in secondary sides of SMPS. The TurboSwitch technology ensures low overall power losses in both the diode and the companion switching transistor, making it suitable for high-frequency and high-pulsed current operations.
