The STM802BDR is a switch mode current regulator IC from STMicroelectronics, featuring two modes: In-rush and Holding. It is designed to regulate current for solenoids, with in-rush current occurring in the first 64 ms of each on/off cycle.
Key electrical features include a wide supply voltage range of 8 to 35V DC, a built-in gate drive voltage clamp typically at 11V, and a logic-controlled enabling circuit. The IC also incorporates a digital in-rush timer and a built-in power-on reset function. Internally trimmed timing oscillators eliminate the need for external timing capacitors, and a fixed in-rush/hold current ratio is maintained. A low drop current sensing resistor is utilized, and an integrated filter in the feedback loop has a typical time constant of 2µs.
This controller IC is housed in a standard SO-8 package, suitable for surface mount applications. The design allows for external power MOS selection based on supply voltage and current requirements. The STM802BDR is ideal for applications requiring precise control over solenoid current, such as in automotive systems, industrial automation, and various electromechanical devices.
