The Texas Instruments SN75176 is a fault-protected RS-485 transceiver suitable for half-duplex, two-wire bus communication. It is designed to withstand significant overvoltage faults, including direct shorts to power supplies and mis-wiring.
This transceiver operates with a supply voltage range of 3.3V to 5V. It features bus-pin fault protection up to ±70V for certain variants and ±16kV HBM ESD protection on bus pins. The device supports signaling rates of 115 kbps, 1 Mbps, and up to 10 Mbps, making it versatile for various industrial and telecommunication applications.
The SN75176 is characterized for operation between -40°C and 125°C. It is pin-compatible with the industry-standard SN75176, allowing for easy system upgrades. Available in SOIC and PDIP packages, it offers flexibility for different mounting requirements.
Key features include failsafe receiver operation for open-circuit, short-circuit, and idle-bus conditions, as well as low power consumption with a standby supply current of 1 µA maximum and a quiescent current of 4 mA during operation. The reduced unit load capability supports up to 320 nodes on the bus.
