The SN74221N from Texas Instruments is a dual monostable multivibrator integrated circuit. It is designed with performance characteristics virtually identical to the SN54121 and SN74121 one-shots.
This device features a negative-transition-triggered input and a positive-transition-triggered input, both of which can function as inhibit inputs. The Schmitt-trigger input circuitry on the B input provides excellent noise immunity, allowing for jitter-free triggering from inputs with transition rates as slow as 1 V/s. The output pulse length can be adjusted from 35 ns to a maximum by selecting appropriate external timing components.
The SN74221N operates within a voltage range of 4.75V to 5.25V and has a typical propagation delay of 40 ns. It requires a current of 800µA and 16mA. The device contains two independent circuits and is suitable for through-hole mounting.
Packaged in a 16-pin PDIP (0.300", 7.62mm), the SN74221N is designed for operation in temperatures ranging from 0°C to 70°C. Its TTL-compatible output rise and fall times are independent of the output pulse length.
