The Texas Instruments SN65HVD233HD is a 3.3-V CAN transceiver IC designed for Controller Area Network (CAN) serial communication physical layers, compatible with ISO 11898.
This transceiver supports signaling rates up to 1 Mbps and features an extended common-mode range of -7 V to 12 V. It provides significant protection, including bus-pin fault protection exceeding ±36 V and bus-pin ESD protection exceeding 16-kV HBM. The device is suitable for applications requiring high input impedance, allowing for up to 120 nodes on a bus when the common-mode range is restricted to ISO 11898 standards, or up to 60 nodes with the extended range.
Designed for demanding conditions, the SN65HVD233HD operates in an extreme temperature range of -55°C to 210°C. It is available in an 8-SOIC package and supports surface mount installation. The LVTTL I/Os are 5-V tolerant, and adjustable driver transition times enhance signal quality. Additional features include a low-current standby mode (200 µA typical) and power-up/down glitch-free bus inputs and outputs.
Applications for this transceiver include down-hole drilling, high-temperature environments, industrial automation, DeviceNet, Smart Distributed Systems (SDS), SAE J1939, NMEA 2000, ISO 11783, and general CAN data bus interfaces.
