The Texas Instruments SN54S283J is a 4-bit binary full adder IC. It performs the addition of two 4-bit binary words, providing sum outputs for each bit and a carry-out from the fourth bit.
This device offers full internal look-ahead across all four bits, generating the carry term typically in 7.5 nanoseconds for the 'S283 versions. This capability provides system designers with partial look-ahead performance while maintaining the economy and reduced package count of a ripple-carry implementation. The adder logic is implemented in its true form, allowing for end-around carry without logic or level inversion.
Designed for military applications, the SN54S283J operates over a wide temperature range of -55°C to 125°C. It is housed in a 16-pin CDIP (J) package. The supply voltage and ground pins are located on the corner pins to simplify PC board layout.
This component is suitable for digital systems requiring fast and efficient binary addition, particularly where space and power are considerations.
