The STMicroelectronics SMTY5.0A is a Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode, also known as a Transky, designed for protecting sensitive electronic components from ESD transients and reverse voltages on 5V and 12V power rails. It integrates a Transil with a low forward voltage Schottky diode in a monolithic structure.
Key electrical specifications include a 5V stand-off voltage, a breakdown voltage of 5.5V minimum at 1mA, and a clamping voltage of 9V at 10A. It offers a peak pulse power capability of 600W for a 10/1000µs waveform and a low forward voltage drop of 0.48V at 1A. The device exhibits a very low leakage current of 10µA at 5V.
This TVS diode complies with IEC 61000-4-2 level 4 standards for ESD protection, handling 15kV air discharge and 8kV contact discharge. It is housed in a JEDEC registered SMA (DO-214AC) package, suitable for surface mounting.
The SMTY5.0A is optimized for miniaturized electronic devices, offering space savings compared to discrete solutions while providing high transient capability. Its fast response time and low clamping factor make it suitable for general-purpose applications requiring robust over-voltage protection.
