The Bosch SMI230 is a combined inertial sensor designed for non-safety relevant applications. It detects acceleration and angular rates across three perpendicular axes, enabling tilt, motion, vibration, or shock sensing irrespective of mounting orientation. This sensor is particularly useful as it eliminates the need for different sensor housings for slant-angle correction.
Key technical features include a supply voltage range of 2.4 to 3.6 V and a low supply current of 5.17 mA. The operating temperature range is from -40°C to 105°C. It offers flexible accelerometer ranges of ±2g to ±16g and gyroscope ranges of ±125°/s to ±2,000°/s, both with 16-bit data resolution. The sensitivity tolerance is ±1% for both axes.
Connectivity is provided via SPI and I2C interfaces. The SMI230 is housed in a compact LGA16 package measuring 3 x 4.5 mm², contributing to a small footprint. Its benefits include high accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and low power consumption, making it suitable for applications like high-end navigation (dead reckoning), eCall, telematics, and vehicle dynamics data logging.
The SMI230 supports both SPI and I2C interfaces.
The SMI230 operates within a supply voltage range of 2.4 to 3.6 V.
The SMI230 can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 105°C.
The accelerometer ranges available are ±2 g, ±4 g, ±8 g, and ±16 g.
The gyroscope ranges available are ±125 °/s, ±250 °/s, ±500 °/s, ±1,000 °/s, and ±2,000 °/s.
The SMI230 is available in an LGA16 package.
