The Littelfuse Inc. SMF40A is a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode from the SMF4L series, designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients. It offers a peak pulse power dissipation of 400W at a 10/1000μs waveform and 2000W at an 8/20μs waveform.
This device operates with a 40V working voltage and a 64.5V clamping voltage, capable of handling 3.1A peak pulse current. It is constructed for surface mounting in a compact SOD-123F package, optimizing board space. The operating and storage temperature range is from -55°C to 150°C.
Key features include ESD protection up to ±30kV (Air and Contact) per IEC 61000-4-2 and a fast response time typically less than 1.0ns. The SMF4L series is suitable for protecting I/O interfaces, VCC buses, and other vulnerable circuits in applications such as cellular phones, portable devices, and power supplies.
