The SMCJ48CA is a 1500W bidirectional TVS diode from Littelfuse designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients. It offers a reverse standoff voltage of 48V and a clamping voltage of 77.4V at 19.4A peak pulse current (10/1000μs waveform). The device features an extremely fast response time of less than 1.0 picosecond from 0V to breakdown voltage, along with IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection up to 30kV (air and contact discharge).
Housed in a surface mount DO-214AB (SMC) package, the SMCJ48CA is suitable for automated assembly. It operates over a temperature range of -65°C to 150°C and has a power dissipation of 6.5W. Thermal resistance is 15°C/W junction-to-lead and 75°C/W junction-to-ambient. The device is RoHS compliant, halogen free, and has MSL level 1.
Typical applications include protection of I/O interfaces, VCC bus, and other vulnerable circuits in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer electronics. The glass passivated junction and low incremental surge resistance ensure reliable performance under transient conditions.
