The SMCJ36A is a unidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode manufactured by Bourns. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage transients induced by lightning and other transient events. With a peak pulse power rating of 1500W (10/1000μs waveform), it provides robust protection for I/O interfaces, VCC bus, and other vulnerable circuits in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer applications.
Key electrical specifications include a reverse standoff voltage of 36V, a maximum clamping voltage of 58.1V at a peak pulse current of 25.9A. The device features a fast response time of less than 1.0ps and typical reverse leakage current below 1μA. It is not designed for power line protection.
The SMCJ36A is housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface mount package, suitable for automated assembly. It operates over a junction temperature range of -55°C to 150°C (with datasheet indicating -65°C to 150°C). The device is RoHS compliant, halogen free, and has a Pb-free E3 terminal finish. It meets MSL level 1 and is flammability rated V-0. Thermal resistance junction-to-lead is 15°C/W and junction-to-ambient is 75°C/W. Power dissipation is 6.5W at 50°C lead temperature.
