The SMBJ51A is a unidirectional TVS diode from the SMBJ series, designed for transient voltage suppression in sensitive electronic circuits. It features a reverse standoff voltage of 51V and a maximum clamping voltage of 82.4V at 7.3A peak pulse current (10/1000μs waveform). With a peak pulse power rating of 600W, it provides robust protection against voltage surges.
Key electrical characteristics include a typical leakage current of less than 1μA when breakdown voltage is above 12V, an extremely fast response time of under 1 picosecond, and ESD protection up to 30kV (air and contact) per IEC 61000-4-2. The device operates over a junction temperature range of -55°C to 150°C.
Packaged in a surface-mount DO-214AA (SMB) package, the SMBJ51A is suitable for automated assembly and space-constrained designs. The package features matte tin lead-free plating and is halogen free. The component is RoHS compliant and meets MSL level 1 for unlimited moisture sensitivity.
Typical applications include protection of I/O interfaces, VCC buses, and other vulnerable circuits in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer electronics. The low incremental surge resistance and excellent clamping capability make it ideal for high-reliability designs.
