The SMBJ400A from Littelfuse is a unidirectional TVS diode designed for transient voltage protection in a variety of electronic systems. Key electrical specifications include a reverse standoff voltage of 400V, a maximum clamping voltage of 648V, and a peak pulse power dissipation of 600W under a 10/1000μs waveform. The device can handle a peak pulse current of 900mA. The operating junction temperature range is -65°C to 150°C.
This TVS diode features fast response time of less than 1.0ps from 0V to breakdown, making it suitable for protecting sensitive circuits from fast transients. It provides ESD protection in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2 (30kV air/contact) and EFT protection per IEC 61000-4-4. The device has low incremental surge resistance and typical leakage current less than 1μA for parts with breakdown voltage above 12V.
The SMBJ400A is housed in a surface mount DO-214AA (SMB) package, with a supplier package designation of DO-214AA (SMBJ). It is RoHS3 compliant, REACH unaffected, and halogen free as per the datasheet. The part is available in tape and reel packaging for automated assembly. It meets MSL level 1 and has a peak reflow temperature tolerance of 260°C for 30 seconds.
